Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. – 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20
That thing that your soul is currently walking around in is not yours. It was created specially just for you, custom-made by the Creator of the entire universe. But then sin happened, and you fell away from God. I know I did. We all have. And your body had to be bought back from the pits of Hell and eternal fire at a great price. The price of God’s own Son, Jesus. Jesus gave up his life and spent three days of eternity in Hell so that you could be free and run to God’s arms as his child, holy and perfect, not a speck of sin. God couldn’t even look at his own Son because he was so black with sin, with the dirt of all of mankind of him.
Someone died to give you the body you have right now.
And what do we, as sinful humans, do to repay that gift of love and forgiveness?
We go and misuse our bodies, sleeping with others of our own gender, sleeping with someone before marriage, selling our bodies back to the Devil. I sold my body back, refusing God’s gift. And the pleasure I got from that only lasted so long, so I would keep thinking of new ways to get more pleasure that maybe would last a little longer than the others. But it never did. So many nights I wasted, crying in the dark because I was lost, and I sold my body back and now wanted to leave so desperately but I couldn’t stop searching for more pleasure.
And then one night I got down on my knees and said that I didn’t want any of it anymore. And two great arms wrapped around me and said I was forgiven, and I was His child, perfect and gleaming. That his Son had died so I could live.
I am a redeemed child of God, and His hands hold me close.
But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ of our God.
